About Eye diseases

Eye diseases can happen to anyone at any time. You should always take eye ailments as seriously as any other physical ailments. They need good treatment on time. At Pandit Clinic, eye specialist Dr. Jayashree Pandit has a vast experience of more than 30 years in the correct diagnosis and treatment of all types of eye diseases and disorders.  She has helped numerous patients recover from eye diseases and eye disorders with great results.

Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is an inflammation or swelling of the conjunctiva. The conjunctiva is the thin transparent layer of tissue that lines the inner surface of the eyelid and covers the white part of the eye. It is often referred to as “Red Eye”. It is a common eye infection in India. It can happen to adults as well as young children.

Conjunctivitis may be caused due to a bacterial infection, or a virus, or it may be the result of an allergic reaction to air irritants.

Dr. Jayashree Pandit suggests that immediate treatment can control or eliminate the infection completely and avoid any further complications.

Chalazion

A Chalazion is a small lump or cyst that grows inside the eyelid of the patient. It is not painful, but it does interfere with the patient’s eyesight and daily activities. In a lot of cases, it also causes inflammation to the patient’s eyes.

Medically speaking, a chalazion, also known as a meibomian gland lipogranuloma, is a cyst in the eyelid that is caused by inflammation of a blocked meibomian gland, usually on the upper eyelid. Chalazia differ from styes (hordeola) in that they are subacute and usually painless nodules. They may become acutely inflamed, but unlike a stye, chalazia usually sit inside the lid rather than on the lid margin.

Pandit Clinic recommends immediate treatment with some home remedies like warm compresses to speed up the healing process of the eye.

Dry Eye

As adults in the modern world, we spend a lot of our time staring at screens. We are either watching screens (TV or phones) for pleasure or for work (laptop and desktop screens). This exposure along with other factors may reduce the amount and quality of tears produced by our glands.

Tears are essential to nourish and lubricate our eyes. When a person suffers from Dry Eye it means their body is not producing enough tears or they are not of the right quality.

Dry Eye is an easily treatable and manageable condition. Dr. Jayashree Pandit has helped many patients suffering from this condition over the years.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a serious eye disease that affects the optic nerve. Glaucoma is caused by raised pressure inside the eye. It results due to blocks in the outflow channels inside the eye. Any damage to the optic nerve adversely affects the vision. In worst-case scenarios patients may lose their vision due to Glaucoma. The loss of vision in Glaucoma is generally permanent.

All of this can be avoided if the disease is detected in time and treated properly. Glaucoma is most common in adults over the age of 60. Patients having raised blood pressure and diabetes are more likely to develop glaucoma. Pandit Clinic has specialty treatments for patients with Glaucoma. Our aim is to minimize the damage that may be caused due to it, with modern technology and treatments.

Cataract

A cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye leading to a decrease in vision. It can affect one or both eyes. Often it develops very slowly. Symptoms may include faded colours, blurry vision, halos around light, trouble with bright lights, and trouble seeing at night.

Generally, ageing is a leading cause for cataract. But there are other reasons that may cause cataract too such as exposure to radiation, birth defects etc.  But Cataract can be easily treated with a routine surgery at Pandit Clinic. It is a minimally invasive surgery that helps the patient retain their vision instantly.

Retinal Detachment

Retinal detachment (also known as amotio retinae) is a disorder of the eye in which the retina peels away from its underlying layer of support tissue. Initial detachment may be localized or broad, but without rapid treatment the entire retina may detach, leading to vision loss and blindness. It is almost always classified as a medical emergency. Permanent damage may occur if the detachment is not repaired within 24–72 hours.

Retinal detachment needs surgery and you need a good surgeon since it is a complicated eye disease. Pandit Clinic has the best surgical instruments and one of the best surgeons who can navigate you successfully through this difficult situation.

Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy is the result of damage to the tiny blood vessels that nourish the retina. They leak blood and other fluids that cause swelling of retinal tissue and clouding of vision. The condition usually affects both eyes.

Timely detection is a vital factor when treating Diabetic Retinopathy. If left untreated patients may lose their vision completely.

Therefore, at Pandit Clinic, we recommend eye check-ups twice a year for patients with Diabetes.

Pterygium

Pterygium (Surfer’s Eye) most often refers to a benign growth of the conjunctiva. A pterygium commonly grows from the nasal side of the conjunctiva. It is usually present in the palpebral fissure. It is associated with and thought to be caused by ultraviolet-light exposure (e.g., sunlight), low humidity, and dust.

It is treatable. In case it is a minor one then eye drops and ointment may do the trick. Dr. Jayashree Pandit suggests surgical removal only if it is a severe case.
